🌊 OpenSea Raises $100 Million in Series B
OpenSea this week announced its $100 million Series B round led by a16z, with participation from Coatue, CAA founder Michael Ovitz, NBA star Kevin Durant, actor Ashton Kutcher, and more. The raise will establish the New York-based company as a unicorn with a $1.5 billion valuation.
According to its press release, OpenSea plans to use the funding to scale its NFT platform, add to its engineering corps and expand to new international markets. OpenSea will also notably be adding cross-blockchain support, commencing with a gas-free marketplace on the Polygon (MATIC) blockchain that will eliminate transaction fees for users.
"With increasing market adoption around crypto economies, NFTs are quickly becoming the new internet," says Devin Finzer, OpenSea’s co-founder & CEO.
